Hi, I'm Craig. A few years ago I started the divorce process and discovered something that stuck with me: there were options out there — free legal help, court self-help centers, forms I could file myself — that I never knew existed. Nobody told me. I found them by accident.
That didn't sit right. The people who need legal help the most are usually the ones going through the worst time of their lives: a divorce, an eviction, an arrest, a custody fight. They're stressed, they're scared, and the last thing they need is to dig through 47 tabs of legalese hoping to stumble onto the right phone number.
So I built The Legal Buffet: one place, every state, every kind of legal trouble — with the good stuff front and center, in plain language, with every link verified against an official source.
What we promise
- Free, always. No paywalls, no accounts, no upsells. If it costs money, we'll say so upfront.
- Verified links only. Every organization, phone number, and link is checked against an official source. If we can't verify it, it doesn't go on the site.
- Plain language. If a fifth-grader can't follow it, we rewrite it.
- Honest about limits. We're not lawyers and this isn't legal advice — it says so on every page. We'll point you to real attorneys and real aid offices for the rest.
What this site is not
We're not a law firm, we're not lawyers, and nothing here is legal advice. Think of us as the friend who's been through it and hands you the right phone numbers — not the attorney who represents you. For advice about your specific situation, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.
